Sent from my C6502 using T-Shirt Forums Hi! I am new here and let me tell you I've been amazed by this great forum! After a lot of reading - I have decided to start a small T-Shirt printing business with an Epson Inc-jet. So the time to buy is no - Which one should I buy between L1300 and L1800. I know L1800 is build with 6 Inks / tank system, and its great for better photo-quality, but is it actually better for T-shirts? Also in terms of using original inks - which ones comes cheaper for a copy? Is it necessary to have a ICC profile for both printers? Thanks in advance! Christof, I am not familiar with the Epson models you listed. I will tell you that the photographic reproduction values of a t-shirt are really low. That makes a six color printer a waste of money. Stay with a four color printer for shirts. Also make sure the ink is pigment ink and not dye ink. Dye ink is not wash fast. In the USA, Epson's pigment ink is called DURABrite Ultra pigment ink. You could also locate third party pigment inks for use in printers. Those are usually much less. As for ICC profiles some use them and others don't. Depends on how happy you are with the transfers printed on your system. I've attached an image of an Epson box with the Durabrite label in the lower left side of the box. Hope this helps. Reactions 1 L1800 is 6 color printer and Epson L1300 is 4 color printer , so i think its better to go with L1800 printer. It's only money sindhu, you can spend all you want, but it won't make a difference when transferring pigment inks to blank t-shirts. Six color printer just uses more ink for the same results. If your using dye sublimation ink then you will see a difference over four color printers, especially on hard substrates. I have both a 4 color printer and a professional 8 color printer. Epsons 4 color WF7110 and 8 color 4880. If you are printing on Epson's Ultra premium glossy photo paper then there is a huge difference. But of course you can't wear that on a t-shirt. I have taken both printers and printed and transferred the same design before on both and there is no advantage using transfer paper with more than 4 colors. The extra gamut is only achievable on specialty art and photo papers, not dull matte transfer paper. For pigment t-shirt transfers more than 4 colors is overkill. And having more heads = more frequency of banding/clogging issues. 50% more chance if you have 6 colors vs. 4. More maintenance and more $$ when doing head cleans since you are cleaning 6 heads and not 4. Little if any upside 6 vs. 4 colors, but much more downside. See less See more Reactions 1 Hey.... If you decide to buy Epson L1800 then you don't need to have ICC profile because instead of ICC profile you should use printer/scanner drivers. After installing drivers you can print easily without any ICC profile. For drivers go to official Canon site and download drivers from there. Remember that drivers should be suited for your current OS/Window version. Check Epson L1800 Manual to see details how you print/scan with drivers without using ICC profile I print on an L1800, using Apple Keynote to do the graphics. Works usually very well. But never never never align the printhead. I'm also new to the sublimation printing, I'm using epson L-120. What type of epson printer who has best quality picture printing for sublimation especially i'm making at tote bag using a canvass textile. Is there any difference in quality of printing between a 4 color system printer and a 6 color printer? PLease help. Most professional printers use 4 ink setup, there are options of 6 to 12 available as well. The printing media dictates the number of colors, for photo printing on special photo media more the merrier as you can produce some highly detailed prints. For T-Shirts using pigmented ink, 4 colors are more then enough. Having said that you still need to be careful of shades of Red as after heat transfer, the color tends to get pail and at times appear as pink or orange in extreme case. If you're facing this, its ideal to change the shade and decrease the temperature on your heat press. For Sublimation, you can either have 4 or 6, I prefer 6 as sublimation prints are available on a wide variety of media. However regardless, it is better that you get a ICC profile for your ink, most of high quality inks does have ICC profiles available. But if you cant find, you're out of luck and left with either getting your own profile made which will cost you one time or trial and error not recommended methods. As for 6 colors using more ink, on the surface yes, as you have two additional colors to pay for but in my experience the overall ink usage by the printer is relatively less when compared to 4 inks.
